Loose Dried Cinnamon Sticks 20g
Cinnamon has long been a popular culinary spice, especially for sweet dishes. It is used extensively in desserts and baking, as well as for flavouring gins, spirits and other drinks, as well as in tea form. It is often used in mulling drinks and crafts as well.
Please note that these cinnamon sticks are what's known as 'true cinnamon' - from the Cinnamomum Verum plant, which only grows in Sri Lanka. Many commercially-made ground cinnamon powders are made from the stronger but much cheaper and less sweet-tasting Cinnamomum Cassia plant, also known as Chinese Cinnamon or Cassia Cinnamon. In stick form, you can tell the difference visually as true cinnamon is flaky, almost 'papery', whereas cassia is more like a solid bark and the sticks look more like a single piece of curled bark.
Cinnamon also has numerous historical and current medicinal uses. It is loaded with antioxidants, especially polyphonols, and has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to help reduce blood triglycerides, as well as improving insulin sensitivity in diabetic patients (please see links below for peer-reviewed studies).
As with all medicinal use of herbs, please speak to your doctor or care provider for further information. This description is not intended as medical advice or in place of medical advice.
